What is BTR Music?

BTR Music is a music streaming and discovery app available on iOS and Android. It combines full-track streaming with discovery, social features and direct artist–fan interaction.

The idea is simple: listening should be about more than repeatedly serving people the music they already know.

BTR gives tracks multiple ways to reach listeners through genres, recommendations, charts, battles, scenes, cities, sharing and community activity. Music can start in Lagos, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Bengaluru, London, Atlanta or somewhere completely new and find listeners anywhere.

Where BTR came from

BTR stands for Beats To Rap On, the artist platform at beatstorapon.com.

Beats To Rap On began as an artist platform where musicians could upload music, work on tracks and build their presence. BTR Music extends that ecosystem to listeners: a dedicated consumer app for streaming, discovery and direct interaction with artists.

Independent artists can continue to upload directly through the artist platform, while BTR Music also works with labels, distributors and rights holders to expand the catalogue available to listeners.

And no, the name has nothing to do with the band Big Time Rush. Different BTR. We get asked.

How discovery works

Discovery on BTR is designed to give listeners multiple ways into music rather than forcing everything through a single chart, playlist or algorithm.

• Scout: Find a track early and scout it. Your history remembers which music you discovered before it started moving.
• Track Battles: Two tracks, one vote. Battles put songs directly in front of listeners and feed daily and weekly rankings.
• Power Charts: Genre and country charts built from qualified listening and engagement rather than one global leaderboard.
• Scenes: Follow the genres and music cultures you care about — hip-hop, drill, Afrobeats, Amapiano, R&B, Latin, electronic and more.
• Heat: See what is gaining momentum inside particular scenes and locations.
• The Wire / Around Me: Explore listening activity and music movement geographically.
• Fresh: Music that has recently landed on the platform.
• Gems: Tracks showing strong signals that deserve more discovery.
• Most Shared: Music listeners are actively sending to other people.

Independent artists can join the BTR ecosystem directly through Beats To Rap On.

Upload your music. Create an artist account, upload your track and artwork, complete the required metadata and submit the release for review.

Work on the record. The web platform includes production tools such as stem splitting, vocal removal, mastering and key/BPM detection, alongside creative services available through the wider marketplace.

Reach listeners. Once available in BTR Music, tracks can surface through discovery, artist profiles, recommendations, scenes, charts, battles and sharing.

Understand your audience. Artists can see how people are listening, where listeners are and how their music is performing.

Build more than streams. Artists can create direct relationships with listeners through follows, messages, Tips, Backing, Superfan, Vault and shoutouts.

2. Press play. No account needed. Start listening immediately.
3. Create an account when you want more. Sign in with Apple, Google or email to unlock likes, follows, playlists, DMs, Crews, battles and artist-support features.
4. Pick your scenes. Choose the genres and music cultures you care about.
5. Follow what catches your ear. BTR gets more useful as your listening history, scenes and artist relationships develop.
